The purpose of the Nutrition College Bowl is to "gather schools from across the Western United States to compete for scholarship funds to support their academic programs. The overall goal of the event is to encourage a spirit of teamwork, education, friendly competition, and cooperation among Food Science, Nutrition, and Dietetics students." Computrition has supported the worthwhile event annually both in an effort to foster community goodwill, as well as to promote the vital role of technology to future nutrition and food science professionals within their given career path. Computrition has also collaborated with the Marilyn Magaram Center in past years by presenting leadership speakers and coordinate internship rotations to provide didactic students with additional insight regarding non-traditional career paths in the field of dietetics.
Of the eleven schools that competed, the Computrition team was thrilled that five of them were representing long time customers and users of Hospitality Suite, its industry-leading food management, production and nutritional analysis automation.
The final round of the competition presented Central Washington University and California State University, Northridge students competing, with CSUN taking home the first place trophy. Marty Yadrick, MS, MBA, RD, FADA, Past President of the American Dietetic Association and Director of Nutrition Informatics for Computrition, attended as well as presented each team with their respective awards and certificates of participation.
In reference to being extended the opportunity to honor and congratulate participating schools, Yadrick states, "I was honored to represent both the American Dietetic Association, as well as Computrition, in sharing some insight about how volunteering and taking on various leadership roles has helped enrich my career, as well as those of my colleagues in our industry. I see similar passion and drive in each student that participated and it's heartening to see their broad knowledge base, as well as their enthusiasm for their chosen profession. The future of dietetics is in good hands."
With respect to the Computrition’s longtime support of the Center, Dr. Joyce Gilbert, RD, LD, states, "The Nutrition College Bowl is one of many student education programs developed and sponsored by the Marilyn Magaram Center. We would not be able to offer such programs without the support of our sponsor, Computrition. Computrition understands the value of potentiating student learning and contributing to the betterment of the campuses they serve. The NCB enables nutrition and dietetics students to develop critical thinking skills as they prepare and participate in the competition. We were fortunate to win the competition for the third time and are very proud of our CSUN team."
