New American Dietetic Association Treasurer Spotlights Diversity Initiatives

 

Chatsworth, CA, June 1, 2005—Martin M. Yadrick, MS, MBA, RD, FADA, begins his two-year term as Treasurer of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) today.  Along with serving on the board of directors and overseeing the association’s financial records, Yadrick is charged with encouraging and promoting diversity within the association and the profession of dietetics. 

 

Yadrick joins other ADA leaders in their efforts to increase minority membership and expand programs to recruit under-represented groups such as Hispanics/Latinos, African Americans, and Native Americans into the profession of dietetics.  Yadrick and his colleagues on the ADA board will promote programs that focus on understanding cultural differences and providing optimal services for diverse populations.  Programs include: creating multi-lingual publications, offering minority scholarships, and training for dietetics students and professionals on working with clients from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.  

 

“I am eager to serve the ADA as its Treasurer, and I am ready to carry on the association’s goal of building an aligned, engaged, and diverse membership by helping to keep the critical issue of diversity at the ADA forefront,” said Yadrick. “As the authority on public health nutrition, the ADA has a responsibility to address the needs of our country's rapidly changing population." 

 

Yadrick will be working alongside ADA’s new President and obesity expert, Rebecca Reeves, DrPH, RD, FADA, as well as 15 other leaders on the 2005-2006 Board of Directors. 

 

Yadrick, a graduate of Colorado State University, is Project Manager for Computrition, Inc., a California-based provider of integrated software solutions for the healthcare and hospitality industries.  He served as Chair of ADA’s Diversity Committee in 2001-2002 and is a past media spokesperson for the association.  He also served on the boards of the both the California and the Missouri Dietetic Associations.  Yadrick is a Fellow of the American Dietetic Association and is a past Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year recipient from Missouri.  He was recipient of the 2001 Excellence in Private Practice, Business, or Communications Award from the California Dietetic Association.
